Claude Puel praised his Southampton side after they secured a 0-0 draw at Liverpool on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The Saints frustrated their hosts for large periods of the game but still required a penalty save from goalkeeper Fraser Forster in order to grab a point to continue Southampton’s great run of form against Liverpool this season.<\/p>\n

Southampton have played Liverpool four times this season, with two of those games coming in the EFL Cup, and have not conceded a single goal during those matches, highlighting their impressive resolve in defence against the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.<\/p>\n

Puel told\u00a0?BBC Sport:\u00a0?“I think it was a fantastic job for us. We defended very well and with quality and good organisation.<\/inline><\/p>\n

“Perhaps we could have done better with the counter attack, but we showed good energy, spirit and organisation.<\/p>\n

“It was difficult for them to come into our box and for me it was a harsh penalty and a good save. It was a deserved point.”<\/p>\n

While Southampton may not have built on the impressive side Ronald Koeman left at the end of last season, they displayed good resolve to keep out their hosts, coupled with great discipline to restrict Liverpool’s forward players of any space in and around the penalty area.<\/p>\n

The draw helped Southampton climb into the Premier League’s top 10, overtaking both Bournemouth and West Ham. They have a game in hand on both West Brom and Leicester, who they are three and two points behind respectively.<\/p>\n
