Andreas Christiansen’s father has insisted that the Chelsea defender will not be used as a bargaining chip in the Blues’ chase for Virgil van Dijk in the summer, saying that the 21-year-old has a regular role to play in the club’s starting lineup.<\/p>\n

The Dane is will return to Chelsea this sumer\u00a0after two years on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, having impressed during his time\u00a0in the Bundesliga.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0Danish newspaper\u00a0<\/span>?Ekstra Bladet\u00a0Sten Christiansen said:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cAndreas will not be used in a barter and play for Southampton. There are no ways for this to happen.\u00a0<\/span>Andreas should not sit on the bench. He has played solidly for two seasons. Therefore, it is also planned for the future that he will play every week.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Chelsea have been keeping close tabs on Van Dijk since he established himself as one of the league’s best defenders at the heart of Southampton’s defender, and\u00a0Conte is keen to add the Dutch centre-back to his ranks to ensure that the competition for places remains high.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Blues\u00a0had been rumoured to be considering a move involving Christiansen – on loan or otherwise – for the Saints defender, despite the season-ending ankle injury he picked up back in January.<\/p>\n
