Claude Puel was scathing in his assessment of Southampton’s\u00a0performance in the 0-0 draw with Hull City and has urged his team to improve in the final few matches of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Saints struggled for fluency for much of the match and only called opposition goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic into action in the final 10 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A poor performance was then summed up in stoppage time when Dusan Tadic had his penalty saved as the hosts squandered the chance to close the gap on West Brom in eighth.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the full-time whistle, the Southampton boss was noticeably disappointed with his side and conceded the performance was not good enough.<\/p>\n

“It was not a good performance,” Puel told\u00a0?Sky Sports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“There was very little quality, rhythm, intensity. We were too slow to find the good situations.\u00a0When we attacked, we were too slow.\u00a0<\/inline><\/p>\n

“We could not find any intensity against a good team with a good organisation and technical play, but for us, it was not enough. But we have to accept this.<\/inline><\/p>\n

“They played very well. They want to stay in the Premier League. It was a difficult game for us, and difficult game for them, and I think it is a good point for us.”<\/p>\n

Puel wasn’t the only one inside St Mary’s to voice his displeasure at the home side’s showing as boos could be heard at half-time and at the end of the match.<\/p>\n

When asked for his thoughts on the matter, the Saints boss insisted he had no qualms with the booing and agreed that his team needed to show improvement.<\/p>\n

“The fans agree, the players agree and the staff agree: we need to put more into the match,” the Frenchman\u00a0added. “Today it was not enough and it is our responsibility.”<\/p>\n
