Sunderland striker Victor Anichebe has conceded that he is not thinking about his future at the club, but paid tribute to patient Black Cats supporters.

The Nigerian made the move to the north east last September having left West Brom at the end of last season, but has endured an injury-ravaged campaign.<\/p>\n

Sunderland may looked doomed at present,\u00a0and\u00a0may have feelings of ‘what might have been’ over the 28-year-old, who started in four of the Black Cats’ five Premier League victories this season.

David Moyes’ side seem to have struggled without the big man, and Jermain Defoe has been left to carry the burden once again up top.<\/p>\n

Speaking on his missed game time, as quoted by the ?Sunderland Echo<\/span>,\u00a0he said: “The fans have been great to me, it is a really great club, so whenever I go out there I try as hard as I can. This injury was meant to keep me out for 12\/13 weeks but I came back after nine, because I wanted to help the team because I know I can with the different style I bring.”

Anichebe, along with John O’Shea and Seb Larsson, is out of contract at the Stadium of Light at the end of the season, and added: “I\u2019m not thinking about it at the moment, I just need to stay fit and help us get some wins, for the fans here and our ourselves.”<\/p>\n

Whether the former Everton man stays at the club for the 2017\/18 remains to be seen – if Sunderland are to play Championship football as expected, then Anichebe’s injury record may prove to be a deciding factor.?<\/p>\n
