Frank Lampard has revealed that he was offered a return to the Premier League in January by Swansea boss Paul Clement, report\u00a0?Sky Sports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Chelsea legend became a potential target for the Welsh club as they attempt to recover their season and fight against relegation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However the former England international hasn’t played a game since his contract expired with New York City last year and said that a mid-season training regime and half a season would have been detrimental to both of them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He told Goals on Sunday:\u00a0“Clem at Swansea asked me to go and be involved there.<\/span><\/p>\n

“And I have so much respect for him that that made me really think: ‘Could I get involved and maybe help there?'”<\/p>\n

Lampard already has a link with the Swans after a short loan spell in 1995 while he was at West Ham United, but he realised this wouldn’t be a\u00a0suitable option this time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said:\u00a0“I had a link there, which was a nice thing, Clem sold it brilliantly to me and it was one of those. But again, having played at the top level and been fortunate to have played with Chelsea for so long, and Man City at the end, you are talking about top clubs that were fighting at the top.<\/p>\n

“And no disrespect, but it was not the right battle at that point in my career as I would have wanted to have gone there and given my all and tried to help.<\/p>\n

“This was in January, so I would have had to get fit again, have a mini pre-season and at 38 years of age slugging it out at the bottom of the Premier League in reality.<\/p>\n

“I wish Clem very well, but it just was not the right option for me.”<\/p>\n

Swansea are currently two points away from moving out of the drop zone and have just five games remaining to avoid relegation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
