?Off the back of a 4-1 loss to Burnley, Sunderland will probably be in pretty low spirits – especially after losing key players over the past few weeks with even more due to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Here’s their best potential lineup for the game against Liverpool on Monday….
Goalkeeper
-
Mannone1
Jordan Pickford will be out until February with an ACL injury so Vito Mannone will keep his place, despite conceding four to Burnley.
Defence
-
Manquillo0
-
Djilobodji5
-
O´Shea16
-
van Aanholt3
?Lamine Kone picked up an injury in the 4-1 loss to Burnley and won’t be able to play in this one, meaning that John O’Shea will return from…erm, wherever he was supposed to be playing against Burnley to accompany Papy Djilobodji, who is available for the last time before leaving for AFCON.
Midfield
Ibrahim Ndong and Wahbi Khazri will be available for the last time before AFCON and will most likely start as Sunderland deal with an injury crisis.
In all honesty, Sunderland shouldn’t be struggling as badly as they are with a midfield like this but they’ll probably look to add something more as they start 2017 in 18th.

Defoe18
Linked with a move away from the club, Jermain Defoe is (and has been for a while) pretty much the only bright spark in a struggling Sunderland side.
At 34 years old and with Victor Anichibe dogged with constant injury problems, providing backup for Defoe will probably be one of many things on Moyes’ mind this transfer window.?
