Reports in France suggest that Manchester United have commenced negotiations with Monaco for the signing of 22-year-old starlet, Bernardo Silva and the Red Devils could have priority over his future.
According to Sport Witness, the Portuguese international has caught the eye of Jose Mourinho with some outstanding performances in a Monaco side which has taken Ligue 1 by storm with their ruthless offensive displays.
The principality side have scored an outrageous 70 goals in just 24 matches this season with Silva recording five goals and five assists, including a vital injury-time equaliser away to Paris Saint-Germain.
The playmaker’s agent is none other than Jorge Mendes, leading many to believe that a deal could already be in place or that United have first refusal, meaning they would be notified, if another club made an offer for the special talent and they could then match it.
The report claims that United have already started talks over a June transfer, with Mourinho, who was inactive in January, looking to plan ahead for what could be a vital summer window.
With Silva’s contract in France running until 2020, the Red Devils will have to make a substantial bid, but expensive fees have never deterred Ed Woodward before, especially for younger talents.
Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw all represent frankly extortionate price tags for youthful talent as the club seek to relive the halcyon days of the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Silva would be another buy in the right direction, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan seemingly finding a new home as the central creative instrument in the United midfield, the Red Devils could use another right-sided midfielder.
Juan Mata is currently making the role his at the moment, but the more athletic and unpredictable playmaking style of Silva could really appeal to the Old Trafford hierarchy.
