Lyon Manager Names Manchester United Winger as Top Transfer Target for January Window

?Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has revealed that he has made Manchester United winger Memphis Depay his top transfer target this month.

Depay has struggled in his time at United and Lyon see an opportunity to get the midfielder lower than the £25m PSV sold Depay for.

“It takes time, discussions…because recruiting a player now is not easy. I trust the president to get things done quickly.” Genesio said on the Lyon website, via ?talkSPORT.

“I have put a priority on Memphis Depay. He is a powerful player who scores goals and is good at set-pieces. Rachid [Ghezzal] has left for the Africa Cup of Nations and Memphis knows how to play out wide.

“He is a young player with great international experience and a lot of potential. This is my number one priority.

“I’m a fan of this player, he has an interesting profile for us, especially as we risk losing Rachid at the end of the season – But there are several things to consider, including the price.”

Lyon made a £13m bid for the Dutch international earlier this week, but United, ?via VioletSport, have marked the offer as “far from being reasonable.”

Even though Depay hasn’t featured for the Red Devils since November, Mourinho insists the midfielder still has some sort of role in the first team squad if he doesn’t leave this month.

Everton are also reportedly interested in Depay and with a stronger financial situation than Lyon, could make a bid nearer United’s £25m asking price, but only time will tell.
