Starting once again in his new position as a striker against West Ham, Alexis Sanchez grabbed a hat-trick to heap further misery on Slaven Bilic’s team, who now sit a point above the relegation zone.
Completing the rout with a cheeky flick over the embarrassed Darren Randolph, Sanchez scored what was only the second hat-trick the Premier League has seen this season – on this day last year, Riyad Mahrez had sunk Swansea with what was the NINTH hat-trick of that season so far.
“We all would love his qualities to play there. And I think as well, now, he is convinced that it’s his best position and in every game he has that as well.”
Sanchez is not a total stranger to this position as this is where he often plays for Chile, prompting him to score three goals in the 2016 Copa America.
The forward has had a lot of success in that position for his country recently, winning back-to-back Copa America titles in 2015 and 2016 and earning the title of Player of the Tournament (2016) in the process.
Wenger went on to state the forward “maintains that focus, and will always kill you when he can. He can always deliver something special because he can dribble, has a short backlift, and he has pace. So that’s why it’s interesting.”
After years of crying out for a world class centre-forward to help them challenge for the top trophies, Arsenal look to have discovered one within their ranks. With Giroud and Welbeck currently out injured, nobody looks likely to take the Chilean’s spot any time soon.
